How to Make a Basic Valentine Box

The base method every themed box uses: a covered shoebox with a card slot in the lid.

How to make it

  1. Choose a shoebox or tissue box. Tape the lid on if using a shoebox.
  2. Cover it in wrapping paper, coloured paper or paint.
  3. Cut a slot 1 cm wide and 12 cm long in the top — big enough for cards and small treats.
  4. Add the child’s name on the front so it doesn’t get mixed up at the party.
  5. Decorate with your chosen theme.
Tip: Make the slot wider than you think — party cards often come with lollipops attached.
